American Football and Lacrosse

This weekend was pretty interesting. A Canadian (Mike), who just started working here, and I decided to get out and play a game of lacrosse. There is actually a league here of about 5 teams and there is a PwC alum on one of the teams who we met that invited us out to play (we both used to play but it's been about 8 years since I last picked up a stick). Anyway, I think it was a bit of a mistake. I figured I'd be able to ease right back into it, but it was tough. I had to play midfield which is not where I used to play and it involves running all over the field so I was ridiculously tired and had to keep coming off the field for a break. I did have a somewhat enjoyable time as it was nice to meet some people and to play the sport again, but I don't think I'll keep it up. Games are every Saturday and I want to go travel and do things on weekends so don't really feel like committing to anything. Oh well, maybe I'll fill in once and a while if they are short on numbers. So that was my one game as an Upper Harbour Hawk. On a side note, I got crazy looking sunburn from where my pads were so I had some interesting red stripes for a day or two.

On Sunday, I got some people together from the office for a game of American Football and a barbecue. The weather was absolutely gorgeous this weekend (probably around 24 degrees and sunny). One other American guy, Jeremy, and one American girl, Michelle, came out for the game and Mike the Canadian knew how to play, but it was a pretty new concept for the rest of the group. We had a great time though, and afterwards I was finally able to try out my barbecue grill that I shipped over from the U.S. It took me months to finally find a store with the right kind of little propane tanks to make it work. I got hotdogs, hamburgers, American Mustard, Heinz Ketchup, and topped it off with some Budweiser and MGD for a real American Barbecue. I think everyone had a really nice time and it was great to spend the day playing football in the park and eating. I hope the weather stays like this for the next few months.

Perfect form...

After a long game of football it was time for a barbecue - hotdogs, hamburgers, and Budweiser
